SORBENCY CAPABILITY

TEST OF THE EXTOVER® SORBENCY CAPABILITY

by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM)

Damaged or defective lithium cells are considered dangerous goods, so that certain requirements for packaging and filler have to be met. Lithium is a highly reactive material, making it difficult to handle. It reacts even with humid air and especially intensely with water. Overheating may occur and electrolyte or gas can be discharged.

Extover® offers secure protection as a filler for the transportation of dangerous goods. The Extover® granulate absorbs about 200% of its own weight in water and/or liquid chemicals. The sorbency capacity of the Extover® granulate was tested by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin. This test was conducted based on the BS 7959-1:2004 standard (“Materials used for the control of liquid spillages – Part 1: Determination of sorbency”). Electrolyte was used as the measuring fluid.
